Hird Loan Extension
By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/01/2008
DONCASTER Rovers defender Sam Hird has had his loan at Blundell Park extended by a further month, which will take the 20-year-old's spell with the Mariners up to three months.
Hird and his fellow loanee Rob Atkinson have transformed Grimsby's results since their arrival in November. Their first game was the 3-0 win at Barnet, and since then Grimsby have adopted a 3-5-2 formation which has seen them pull well clear of the danger area of the table.
Although Hird has been the lesser of the two defenders, Grimsby have no cover at all in the defensive right-sided players. Ryan Bennett was forced to start the season at right back and it a position Grimsby have struggled to fill all campaign.
