My Reflections On Wembley

By: Ian Blakemore
Date: 05/03/2008

THE feeling towards this game for me was a mixture of excitement as well as feeling very nervous and agitated. I had been singing all my favourite Town songs each morning, afternoon and night time since the Morecambe away game.

I personally felt uncomfortable about the game, especially as the game was reaching sell out status, too many times Town have bottled it when we have had crowds of 5000+

The three usual home ends where full, with only restricted views often left. Town even had the main section of the away end.

The crowd looked to get behind the team, though the Pontoon is not the best stand for retaining any sound for any period of time.

Que Sera Sera and Wembley, Wembley rang out more and more in the final 15 minutes.

The Greasey Chip Butty song was sang several times, a good outcry of Take My Hand and Oh Grimsby was sounded out very loudly.

Morecambe with their following got louder as the second half wore on, as they sensed Town were getting a bit desperate.

The most touching moment was Town fans singing "There's only one Alan Buckley" during the scenes of fans celebrating on Blundell Park's turf. To me this shows Buckley had won over the fans after a poor start, and that they appreciated the efforts of Alan and the whole team.

As a loyal Town fan a day out to Wembley means the world to me. I have like other loyal Town fans travelled to terrible grounds across the country, visiting places like Carlisle on a cold wintery Tuesday night or travelling back from places like Chester in thick fog, and missing parts of games like Rochdale, Exeter and Morecambe due to traffic accidents. All this has been endured for the love of my club

This is a day for the players and the 'true supporters' we know we deserve this, let the glory hunters tag along, as they will not be allowed to spoil or take anything away from what will be a great day out. Hopefully some may stay and watch Town in future years but at the moment I am delighted to witness a great turn around by players and management who have shown grit and determination of great magnitude!

The money received will hopefully help Town in the finance department in sorting out the Tax bill and helping Alan to build for next season too! This season is not over, the play-offs may be a hurdle too far but I hope we can give it a good try to reach them.

I would like to thank the management, players, staff and John Fenty for their hard work. They have often faced some harsh opinions from fans and they too deserve this special day out
