Another Intolerable Hurdle

By: Grimsby Town Supporters' Trust
Date: 24/04/2008

THE statement released today by Grimsby Town Football Club highlights yet another intolerable hurdle put in the way of the Club's attempt to bring the Club into the 21st Century.

The attempt by Henry Boot to have the Stadium's planning consent taken to Judicial Review is, it could be argued, the most cynical and self serving of all of those hurdles. Despite having ample opportunity to object to the Stadium proposals throughout the long and tortuous planning process, Henry Boot chose to make their objections after Planning Consent had been granted.

The words of The Honourable Mr. Justice Collins in his refusal for a Judicial Review probably sums up the motivation of Henry Boot perfectly;

"but I am persuaded that the Claimants (Henry Boot) do not have locus standi to challenge a decision in which they played no part and to which they raised no objections. They now, no doubt, appreciate it may have an effect on the viability of their Application, but that is no good reason to allow a challenge."

Furthermore, it comes as no surprise that Henry Boot waited until the very last day that they were allowed to make the Application as set out in planning law. The objective was clearly to cause irreparable damage to the project to the advantage of their own.

Thankfully, the Application has now been refused and the Club and the community can look forward to building something that will inevitably bring sporting, economic and social benefits to the area. We urge the Council and all other interested parties to join together and work to make this development into something we can all be proud of.

Henry Boot, meanwhile, should now concentrate on their own development and, in particular, how their project will avoid bringing traffic chaos to the centre of Grimsby.
