Buckley Releases Pair

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 02/05/2008

TOWN duo Nick Fenton and Ciaran Toner have surprisingly been shown the Blundell Park door. The out of contract pair were told by manager Alan Buckley before last night's awards night that the Mariners would not be offering either of them a new deal.

Of the two Toner is perhaps the most surprising. A versatile midfielder and one of Town's best passers of the ball, the Irishman has never really been given a good run in the side by manager Alan Buckley in his preferred central midfield role.

Fenton has been a regular first team player in central defence and has looked comfortable in Buckley's back three this season.

Hopefully the two changes are part of Buckley's master plan to switch to a 4-4-2 formation next year when in which case we would need less central defenders and central midfielders and more full backs and wingers.

Both players have also been left out of the squad for tomorrow's final League Two clash at Hereford United.

The Fishy would like to thanks both players for the efforts whilst with Town and wish them the best of luck in finding a new employer.
