Boulding to Return?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/05/2008

MICHAEL Boulding could return to Grimsby for a third spell after Mansfield were relegated to the Conference, and Boulding is out of contract at Field Mill. The 32-year-old, who scored 25 goals in a struggling Mansfield side, is likely to attract other clubs than the Mariners however.

Lincoln and Bradford are rumoured to be interested in the former Villa striker, who was a crowd favourite in both his spells at Blundell Park. Boulding also has an option to play in the Conference with the Stags, although he's keen to play at a higher level.

"Personally I want to do as well as I can for myself and it is a big drop down. To play in the non-league would be a big blow" Boulding told the Grimsby Telegraph. "I think I could play a lot higher than I have been doing this season. I have played at Championship level before and I think I am a better player now than I was then."

  • Town's number two goalkeeper Gary Montgomery has been offered a new deal to stay at Blundell Park, although striker Gary Jones could have played his last game for the club. Town boss Alan Buckley told the Grimsby Telegraph: "Monty said he'd let me know by June, which is fine with me. I expect he wants to see of there is any regular first-team football on offer elsewhere." Jones is understood to be looking for a new club in his native North West.
