BRENTFORD defender Matt Heywood has joined the Mariners in a two year deal. The 28-year-old centre back was offered a contract on Monday and the former Brenford captain signed for Town today.

The 6’4” Central defender, who was last season’s Player of the Year at Griffin Park, comes with a wealth of experience at League Two level and above having played over 250 games for Brentford, Bristol City, Swindon and Burnley.

Heywood joins former Scottish international Robbie Stockdale, who is expected to play primarily as a right back, as the second summer signing .

Grim Rob Says Sounds like quite a coup for the Mariners and once again a likely improvement on what we had last season. A couple more signings and Town could be going places next season.
