Overview

Brentford have had a bad start to the season a 1-0 defeat to Bury at Gigg Lane on the first day of the season. The Bees then went on to lose in the League Cup against an impressive Swansea outfit at the Swans' new home, the Liberty Stadium. Andy Scott’s (left) men had a mixed time during pre-season like the rest of League Two clubs: a ten man defeat to Ipswich and a hard time against AFC Wimbledon, then they were overshadowed in a 3-0 win against local team Staines FC in the very last of their pre-season friendlies. After finishing 14th Brentford will want to re-establish themselves and to return to League One after their relegation from it in 2007.

The Team
Scott has enticed several new faces to West London and the majority from higher placed teams in the football leagues. Marcus Bean (left) of Blackpool, Charlie Macdonald of Southend, Brett Johnson of Northampton and from Thursday Mark Phillips once of Millwall all now don the red and white of Brentford. The busy summer period has shown the intention of the London club and where they want to be this year. With proposals well on their way for a new 20,000 seater stadium close to Griffin Park The Bees are going in the right direction on and off the pitch.

One to Watch
Glenn Poole. Local born Glenn Poole spent a lot of time in the lower leagues firstly at Thurrock then moved to Grays Athletic in 2005. His impressive displays and skill in the non-leagues led to Poole acquiring a loan spell at Spotland in March 2007. With just one starting appearance, 5 off the bench and no goals it was hardly inspirational stuff but the technical ability which he showed led to Poole signing for Brentford on a free. 43 games and 14 goals later Brentford have acquired one of the best talents in the lower league and with a great partnership with fellow striker Connell already having been cemented then Poole and his fellow partner will severely challenge Barnes and his two clean sheets this season.

    Head to Head

Grimsby have a good record against Brentford, especially recently, with the exception of the last game between the two sides which the Bees won at Blundell Park. Matches between the clubs are rarely draws: 33 games have taken place since the last stalemate in 1961.

    Last Meeting

    Grimsby 1 Brentford 2 (Sat 24th March 2008)

A shocking second half performance from the Mariners gave visitors Brentford maximum points. Danny North had given Grimsby the lead, only for the Bees to fight back and win 2-1.

    Prediction

A worthy win over Tranmere has got us all slightly optimistic. If the team can perform in any way the same then expect a result against a side still getting to know one another

    Brentford 0-1 Grimsby
