Question of the Week

Next England manager?

Defeat to Barnet
Defeat to Barnet

The End

By: Stephen Johnson
Date: 27/09/2008

IT is with a mixture of sadness, anger and some bewilderment that I say that this is it: no more Poms and no more bothering to look for that first result. I have repeatedly advocated a youth policy coupled with a few consistent stable older players.

This managed by a young ambitious manager who was using the club as a stepping stone and not a rest home. I was at Wembley to see an inept lacklustre performance which set the norm for the remainder of the season and now this one.

What do we get? Young players either not playing or in the wrong positions; players allowed to leave and then be replaced by old has-beens and then the latest: sack the manager [good decision], keep the assistant [terrible decision] and then collect a random selection of loan players.

How on earth is the team supposed to gel together? How does this motivate players, young or old? The Board must take a great deal of resposibility for this. As they dilly and dally any prospective managers will either go to Newcastle United or manage The Bradford and Bingley.

What is the answer?.To be honest I think things are so bad and have gone so far that a few years out of the Football League will do the club good .It will be a sad day but one that may be inevitable

Grim Rob Says Today may have been a blessing in disguise if it rids the club of Stuart Watkiss, and certainly dashes his hopes as manager on a permamnent basis. I wouldn't throw the towel in yet. It's only September and there's plenty of time for a new manager to turn things around. Let's see what the board come up with this week.
