Overview

The Cherries are best remembered around these parts as our Wembley rivals in the 2-1 in Extra Time win that gave us our first piece of silverware under the Twin Towers since our creation. That Wembley goal by Wayne Burnett, his body contorted into some abstract art sculpture, must be viewed in a very different light down on the south coast. Nevertheless time has moved on and though our times have been rough spare a thought for the blessed Bournemouth. They may have a new shiny stadium, well 3 quarters of one; but also they have a dreadful 17-point deduction to deal with. One of the first supporter run clubs ended up in financial problems after their relegation last year narrowly missing out on safety as Crewe managed to stave off relegation during their first year in charge without Dario Gradi.

This season has seen Bournemouth perform relatively poorly, disastrously so if you take into account their predicament. 3 wins all season and 7 defeats so far mean that the Cherries need to improve if they are to stay up.

The Team
A tight budget has certainly taken its toll on Jimmy Quinn who returned to football after taking a 4-year sabbatical after leaving Shrewsbury Town. Quinn managed Reading for 3 years winning 48 matches and losing 48 as well. From there Quinn travelled westward to Swindon followed by a 100 game spell at Northwich and ending up at Shrewsbury for his final spell before joining Bournemouth. The tight budget shows in the amount of loans that have been acquired: 8 so far in total, though 2 have returned to their original port of call - Reneil Sappleton (Leicester) and Scott Wagstaff (Charlton). Still Bournemouth have six others to call upon the most notable are Craig Lindfeild of Liverpool, Joel Ward of Pompey and Shwan Jalal of The Posh. Even though such budgetary problems were overcome its still shocking that Bournemouth only got rid of two senior players and signed five as well as getting the loan signings in. The complete rebuilding of the team is taking its time but is slowly working. Cup wise Bournemouth performed well beating MK Dons and Bristol Rovers twice. They just hope they can transfer their successes to the league.

One to Watch
Darren Anderton. The most famous player for Bournemouth of course is old sicknote of Tottenham and England fame. The now ageing midfielder still fields regularly for the Cherries, the legend actually helped knock Paint Pot winners Franchise FC out of the competition early in October, with 2 goals so far this season. The player who nearly played 300 games for Spurs is still a threat on goal and his sheer presence will be an intimidating site for any player who comes up against him.
