Wright Staying Put

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/03/2009 (Last updated: 14/03/2010)

CHESTER boss Mark Wright has decided to stay with the club, despite threatening to leave last weekend after a change of ownership. The former England captain is frustrated at the transfer embargo imposed by the Football League for not paying players' wages, which it looks like will not be lifted before Thursday's transfer deadline.

Wright told the Chester Evening Leader: "The takeover of the club has not yet gone ahead, so I have decided to stay at the club and put things right for as long as I can.

"I haven't been happy about not being able to bring new players to Chester, but I'm hoping things will change for the good of the fans, the chairman, and the club.

"We now need the fans to get behind us because I will do everything possible to see Chester stay in this division.

"There are seven big games left in which to turn things round. It's not going to be easy because I can't bring new faces into the squad.

It looks like either Chester or Grimsby will join Luton in the relegation places, although there's a possibility with 8 or 9 games to go that either Luton could avoid the drop or other clubs could get sucked into the battle.

  • The club are repeating the £5 admission offer for Saturday's game against Aldershot Town. Over 6000 Town fans took advantage of a similar deal against Gillingham, and Town upset the second placed club, winning 3-0.

To take advantage of the latest offer just cut out the voucher which will be printed in the Telegraph all this week.
