Iron too strong for Grimsby

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/07/2009

GRIMSBY lost 3-0 to a strong Scunthorpe side last night in the Lincolnshire Cup, but it was a very uneven contest as Town only fielded a reserve team, whereas the Iron played a virtually full strength line-up.

Two goals from stiker Paul Hayes and one from Gary Hooper saw Town exit the county's flagship competition.

Grimsby will be playing their strongest available side in tonight's match at Leeds, and the fallen giants are also expected to field a strong team, including strikers Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio in their squad. Former Mariner Jason Crowe also plays for the West Yorkshire outfit and should feature.
