Beat the Bookies: Week 12

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 22/10/2009

ANOTHER losing week on the Fixed Odds bets last week, but at least nearly all the money was clawed back with a reasonable spread betting win when Darlo beat Shrewsbury.

It's another week this week where a lot of the games are "home bankers". On virtually every occasion at least a couple of these games are not won by the home side, and some are regularly away wins. League Two is very unpredictable. Every team has bad days and if you pick an away winner you'll get something at very backable odds generally. It's just a matter of finding them but let's try anyway.

Rochdale v Accrington Stanley Accrington have had some cracking results recently and the price to beat the Dale, who didn't look that good last week, definitely looks generous at 11/2. Selection: Accrington Stanley

Barnet v Darlington Darlo had a good win last week after the managerial change and face Barnet at Underhill. Barnet looked really good against Grimsby (on the other hand nearly everyone does), but have nosedived ever since. You can bet on Darlo to make it a double at 5/1 with Sky Bet. Selection: Darlington

Bournemouth v Grimsby Grimsby have got no chance of course. Lost their manager, probably lost their captain, they are all at sea. But on the other end you just never know. Perhaps Woodsy might just pull a rabbit out of the hat. Town are available at 6/1. Selection: Grimsby

Notts County v Crewe We keep saying it, but just never do it on the right weeks. Oppose Notts County every week and you will make money. This week Crewe are 11/2 with Sky Bet. Selection: Crewe

Chesterfield v Burton Albion Chesterfield are strong at home and Burton not great away, However Burton are on a roll with three consecutive wins and could do to Chesterfield what they did to Grimsby. You can back Burton at 14/5 Selection: Burton Albion

This season we will again be trying out three different betting strategies:

  • Fixed Odds
  • Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
  • The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy). The Monkey lost every bet last year.

Recommended Fixed Odds Bets

  • 1. Darlington to beat Barnet. . (5/1, Sky Bet)
  • 2. Accrington Stanley to beat Rochdale. . (11/2, Bet365)

Recommended Spread Bet

  • Sell Chesterfield mini-performance (30 at extrabet.com)

The Monkey's Bet

  • Grimsby to win 3-1, 80/1 Bet365
