Where will Grimsby finish?

Big Keith RIP
Big Keith RIP

Keith Alexander RIP

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/03/2010

FORMER Grimsby Town striker Keith Alexander died suddenly last night after returning home from a Macclesfield Town game, where he was employed as manager. The 53-year-old managed a number of clubs in League Two including Lincoln, Peterborough and Macclesfield.

Alexander was a non-league player who was spotted by Alan Buckley and became an integral part of the great Town side of the late 80's. After leaving Town he went on to play for Stockport, Lincoln and Mansfield.

Alexander the player was a great dribbler of the ball, despite his height, and terrorised defenders when running at them in the box. Alexander the manager assembled a number of teams who were strong, disciplined and generally very hard to break down and beat. Grimsby only recently played his team Macclesfield at Blundell Park, and did well to come from behind to grab a 1-1 draw.

Keith was linked with the managerial vacancy at Blundell Park several times and probably came very close to being a Grimsby Town manager, but it was never to be.

Keith's Player Database Profile

The Fishy passes on our condolences to all Keith's friends and family.

Grim Rob Says: Keith was a great player and brought me a lot of pleasure in his time at Blundell Park. I especially remember the 2-2 draw at Scunthorpe in 1989 when we came back from 2-0 down and Alexander was instrumental in a terrific second half performance. Thanks, Keith.
