Grimsby Win Lancashire Appeal

TOWN's chances of avoiding relegation have been given a boost with the news that centre-back Oliver Lancashire has won his appeal against a three-match ban for his red card against Northampton on Good Friday.

A FA disciplinary committee reversed the straight red card which was dished out by referee Anthony Taylor for use of an "elbow" on Friday. Unfortunately Town lost the game as they had to play nearly an entire half with ten men, but at least the secondary punishment of a three match ban has been avoided.

Lancashire is now free to start the game against Hereford on Saturday, which means Neil Woods will not have to chance a winning side (subject to injuries), after Town picked up a priceless three points at Accrington on Monday.

Northampton backed Town's appeal, which Town boss Neil Woods was quick to acknowledge.

"I would like to thank Northampton," Woods told Mariners Net. "Their management and staff and all their players have backed our claim and I'm really grateful to them."

  • Town are hoping that regular 'keeper Nick Colgan will be available for the match against Hereford after missing the Easter games. Hull City 'keeper Mark Oxley joined Grimsby on a seven day emergency loan deal and played in the two holiday games, but has gone back across the Humber.

Neil Woods told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It remains to be seen whether Nick will be fit for the weekend. If he's not fit for Saturday we would have to look at the situation and possibly speak to Hull about Mark Oxley again."
