Beat the Bookies: Week 2

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 13/08/2010 (Last updated: 20/11/2010)

LAST week was not a winning week for Beat the Bookies, but there's a long way to go. This weekend the two Premier Leagues begin their games following the curtain raiser last week from the Football League. Sadly we are in the wrong Premier League, but hopefully we won't be there for long.

Home > 2010-2011 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 2

Once again we're concentrating in League Two this weekend until the situation in the Conference becomes a little clear (to me at least). Here are this week's tips.

  • Macclesfield v Shrewsbury. Both sides have started well this season, but Macclesfield is never an easy place to travel to. The Shrews start as favourites with the bookies, but don't rule out the Silkmen who you can back at 19/10
  • Morecambe v Rotherham. Morecambe have a great home record, and a new home now! With the start the Shrimpers have had it's hard to justify Rotherham being favourites, and I fancy a home win at 7/5.
  • Barnet v Burton Albion. Barnet have been written off again by the bookies for 2010-2011, but they've always had a good record at Underhill and 8/5 looks a decent price for a home win.
  • Histon v Barrow. Histon are one of the favourites for relegation, but so are Barrow. Therefore 3/1 for a home win looks very generous.
  • Wolves v Stoke. Stoke have a dreadful away record. End of. Snap up Wolves at 11/8

    Recommended Fixed Odds Bets

    • 1. Morecambe to beat Rotherham. . (15/8, Bet365)
    • 2. Wolves to beat Stoke . . (11/8, Bet365)

    The Monkey's Bet

    • Grimsby to win 3-1, 33/1 Bet365

Previous Fixed Odds Bets (1 or 2 bets, around £10 per week each of Rob's own money)

    DateBetOddsProfit/Loss
    05/08Barnet to beat Chesterfield5/1-£10.00
05/08Reading to beat Scunthorpe by 3 or more goals.4/1-£10.00
    Total -£20.00

Every month I try and beat the bookies but now you can try and beat me - with pretend money. Just sign up and join the Grimsby Town team at OLBG.
