Beat the Bookies: Week 1

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 05/08/2010 (Last updated: 20/11/2010)

BEAT the Bookies this year will be looking at our old stomping ground of League Two, as well as the Blue Square Premier League, not least because we have no experience of the new division so it's very hard to know what to bet on - at least at first!

Home > 2010-2011 Season > Beat the Bookies > Week 1

One again it's always a good idea to forget about the new sides in League Two and concentrate on those teams who were there last year.

Rotherham v Lincoln. Rotherham always beat Lincoln, home and away, they have done for years. With Rotherham getting to the play-offs last season there's a strong chance the Yorkshire side will regard this game as a gimme. Lincoln have to beat worth a flutter at 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

Crewe v Hereford. Hereford ended last season strongly, and Crewe don't seem to have done much for ages. Hereford look at good price at 3/1

Chesterfield v Barnet. Barnet looked a good side at the start of last season, but seemed to lose their confidence midway through the season when they fell like a stone through the league. Presumably some of that confidence of the early part of the season has returned and they might come closer to emulating the start they made last year. The Bees can be backed at 5/1 with Sky Bet!

Reading v Scunthorpe Reading put some excellent results together at the tail end of last season and Scunny will be really up against it, against one of the bigger sides in their division. The odds on Reading winning are very short, but you can back them at 4/1 with Sky Bet to win by 3 or more goals.

This season we will again be trying out three different betting strategies:

  • Fixed Odds
  • The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy). The Monkey lost every bet last year, and the year before!

Recommended Fixed Odds Bets

  • 1. Barnet to beat Chesterfield. . (5/1, Sky Bet)
  • 2. Reading to beat Scunthorpe by 3 or more goals. . (4/1, Sky Bet)
