Town Drawn with Barrow

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/11/2010

GRIMSBY recorded their fourth draw in five league games with another 1-1 scoreline at home to Barrow. The Cumbrian side had briefly taken the lead before stand-in captain Rob Atkinson levelled it. Only the woodwork and an outstanding save from the Barrow 'keeper prevented the Mariners from picking up three points.

First choice 'keeper Kenny Arthur started for Town in place of Steve Croudson, after three months in the wilderness. Otherwise Grimsby kept the same side as won 3-0. Grimsby played from the start the attacking 4-3-1-2 formation with which they had ended the fixture at Hayes, with Connell playing in the hole behind the front two of Ademeno and Coulson.

Town opened strongly and went close on 14 minutes when Connell headed just over, although had he left it Ademeno looked in a better position.

After dominating the first 25 minutes, Barrow came into the game and they were unlucky not to score when they hit the bar on 30 minutes.

With Barrow on top Town switched back to a conventional 4-4-2 five minutes before half time and immediately hit the post through Coulson.

Peter Bore came on for the injured Ademeno at half time.

Soon after the break Bore set up Connell, who attempted to chip the 'keeper, who managed to get back and tip over acrobatically for a corner.

Town then conceded when they failed to react to a quickly taken free kick by Sheridan, and Blundell crossed to Chadwick who put the visitors up.

Town responded quickly when Atkinson got his head onto a ball from a Wright free kick at the far post.

Town pressed for a winner and won a number of corners, then Barrow broke and Arthur had to make a save.

Grimsby immediately broke through a great Bore run and Coulson's shot was deflected off the post.

Grimsby came close and at the end of the day were unfortunate not to get all three points.
