Woods Sacked

NEIL Woods has been sacked as Grimsby boss, after just over a year as permanent manager at Blundell Park. Woods failed to keep Town in the Football League after taking over from Mike Newell, and has seen the Mariners struggle with consistency in their first season in the Football Conference.

Recent results have more or less ruled the Mariners out of a play-off place, which was obviously the board's target for their manager.

Assistant manager Dave Moore will take over.

Grim Rob Says: I can understand the frustration, but there is no indication whatsoever in our recent history that a change of manager will make the slightest bit of difference to the First Team's fortunes. Grimsby's "secret" in the past has always been continuity, but sadly the "instant fix" mentality seems prevalent in our board room like so many others. Let's just hope that whoever gets the job actually gets to see their contract out.…
