Deja Vu

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/03/2011

GRIMSBY in a bizarre coincidence served up a repeat performance of Tuesday night's game against Gateshead in this afternoon's match with Tamworth at Blundell Park. Leading two nil and apparently coasting, the Mariners pulled off star striker Alan Connell with 20 minutes to go.

The script thereafter was a minor variation on Tuesday night's game. Substitute Kyle Perry came on and scored to give the away side a lifeline. Then with 9 minutes to go Tom Marshall levelled the scores. It could have been worse after that - Tamworth had a great chance to make it three but misplaced a pass when they had a numerical advantage on a breakaway attack.

Hudson returned in midfield in the place of rookie Andi Thanoj. Other than that the team was as per Tuesday night's fiasco against Gateshead when Town had had the chance to go 3-0 up with an Alan Connell penalty, and ended up drawing 2-2.

Grimsby started well and took the lead on 15 minutes when an excellent passage of play led to a cross from Coulson which was volleyed in by Eagle in a trademark finish from the Town winger.

Town went on to dominate the first half, had further chances to extend their lead, and were good value for a 1-0 advantage at half time.

Town started the second half strongly as they had done the first and took the lead when Hudson was allowed to make his way to the edge of the box and unleash a curling shot past the 'keeper to make the score 2-0.

Town were looking quite comfortable with 20 minutes to go when Alan Connell, Town's leading marksman, and a regular scorer of late goals was hauled off to give Ademeno a run out. It was unfortunate timing as almost straight away Grimsby conceded, and the familiar tale of woe was to follow.
