Town Replace Feyenoord

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 12/07/2011

GRIMSBY have lined up a plumb friendly with old rivals Barnsley at Oakwell to replace the cancelled Hull City clash at Blundell Park. The Tykes had arranged a match with Feyenoord, but it was cancelled on police advice for fear of "large-scale disorder".

A statement by the Yorkshire club said the match against the Dutch giants had been scrapped on advice of police due to "the high likelihood of large-scale disorder and grave consequences, not only to the Club, but also to the town centre of Barnsley".

The match takes place on Sat 23rd July at 3pm.

The Mariners have played Barnsley 166 time, more than any other club. The teams last met in 2004 when Grimsby won 6-1 and Phil Jevons scored 4 goals for Town! Report.
