Squad Takes Shape

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 01/05/2012

TOWN'S squad for next season is beginning to take shape with several players signing new deals yesterday and others being released. 'Keeper James McKeown and midfielder Andi Thanoj have both signed new two-year contracts, and midfielder Frankie Artus is considering a one year option.

In other developments:

  • Town are still discussing a new deal with promising young defender Charlie I'Anson. Town have a one year option on the young centre back, but may wish to extend his contract.
  • Youth team striker Dayle Southwell has been given a professional contract.
  • Striker Kiernan Hughes-Mason and midfielder Anthony Church have been released, the latter after a disappointing injury-plagued season.
  • Stevenage winger Peter Winn, who was on loan at Blundell Park, will not be returning.
  • Talks with right back Gary Silk will resume after he has recovered from an illness.
  • Michael Coulson, Rob Duffy and Scott Garner had of course already been released before the game with Southport..

The following players are all under contract for next season:

  • Bradley Wood: June 2013
  • Serge Makofo: May 2013
  • Craig Disley: May 2013
  • Liam Hearn: May 2014
  • Anthony Elding: May 2013 (+ 1yr option)
  • Shaun Pearson: May 2013
  • Ian Miller: May 2013
  • Louie Soares: May 2013

Allthough there look to be several new players needed, compared to recent seasons, it will probably be a fairly familiar team that takes the field on the first day of next season.
