10-Men Town Coast to Victory

GRIMSBY picked up a comfortable win against Havant and Waterlooville in the FA Trophy. Three headed goals in the first half gave Town a 3-0 lead at the break. A rash tackle by Colbeck midway through the second half when he had already been booked, led to the winger picking up a red card.

However Town shrugged off the fact that they were down to 10 men, and still had time to add a fourth with a terrific finish by Andy Cook for his second goal of the afternoon.

Town are one of just 7 BSP sides into the last 16 of the FA Trophy, the draw for which is on Monday.

Town made three changes to the side which beat Tamworth. Bradley Wood replaced Aswad Thomas (achilles) at left-back, Scott Neilson and Ross Hannah were both rested and Joe Colbeck on the right-wing and Greg Pearson up front came in in their places.

Havant wore a bright pink kit and were soon 1-0 down when Sean Pearson headed in the opener from a terrific free kick by Sam Hatton.

It was nearly 2-0 when Colbeck forced a save from the 'keeper, and the rebound from Greg Pearson came off the post from 2 feet out.

Soon though it was 2-0 after Wood and Marshall combined down the left, and Marshall picked out Cook with his cross whose header doubled Town's advantage,

On 35 mins another Marshall cross this time found Greg Pearson to put Grimsby 3-0 up.

After the break Colbeck was sent off for a second bookable offence, but Town still had time for a fourth. Cook was played through and drilled the ball past the 'keeper to make it 4-0.

The scoreline did not flatter Town who totally dominated the game and thankfully avoided the possibility of a replay on Tuesday night in deepest Hampshire.
