DAYLE Southwell is the third Mariner to sign a contract extension, following captain Craig Disley and defender Shaun Pearson, who had already penned new deals. The teenage striker was at the fringe of the first team last season, but is hoping to play a more prominent role in the new campaign.
Eight players were released in the summer, but Southwell was one of the fortunate ones to be offered a new deal. The 19-year-old told the Grimsby Telegraph: "It was tough seeing the other lads get released and to be one of only two to be offered to stay really meant a lot. I still don't feel like I've shown what I can really do. There's a lot more to come from me."
Southwell has only started 5 games for Town, and has mainly been used as a sub, coming off the bench on 29 occasions. He has scored two Town goals, most recently at Luton. He has yet to score at Blundell Park, his only other goal being at Hereford in September.
