Halifax Humble Hurst's Men

GRIMSBY succumbed to a humiliating defeat at Halifax last night where they were comprehensively outplayed for virtually the entire 90 minutes. 3-0 down at the break, Town conceded right at the start of the second half to reduce the game to little more than a training exercise for the home team.

The result and the performance puts Town's one remaining managing under pressure. The new signings have so far not proved equal to the players they have replaced, and the new 4-3-3 formation seems to have few who believe in it - including some of the players.

Halifax dominated the early game. McKeown made a top save in the 5th minutes to deny a header from McManus.

Halifax deservedly went ahead after 19 minutes. Smith made a good run and cross and Carver scored from close range.

The home side doubled their lead when Gardner struck a shot through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner on 27 minutes. The third goal came in on 33 minutes when a Town attack broke down and Smith set up Gardner whose shot was saved and the striker scored on the rebound.

Grimsby responded by bringing on Hannah for Thanoj.

Things didn't get better in the second half when Halifax added a fourth goal right at the start. The game was won and Grimsby never came to anything in the rest of the second half.
