Is football a business or a sport?

Rub of the Forest Green

GRIMSBY ended up winners of a see-saw game at Blundell Park that saw the Mariners get the rub of the green at several key moments in the game. Forest Green Rovers were leading 1-0 when Eddie Oshodi received a red card midway through the first half.

Town soon went ahead through Hannah, who then scored a second from the spot after a disputed Grimsby penalty. With the score 2-1 to Town both sides had chances but in the end a third controversial goal which may or may not have crossed the line put the game beyond doubt.

Forest Green's opener was a disaster defensively as Town failed to clear the ball and then Thomas's feeble clearance landed straight at Klukowski who gleefully gave the visitors the lead.

After the sending off for a shocking and needless challenge on Disley though Thomas turned provider. The left back whipped in a brilliant cross leading from a free kick, which saw Hannah flick it in from close range.

After the break Forest Green had a goal disallowed for a very close offside then Hannah added a second from the penalty spot after Neilson was brought down in the box, although there was very little contact.

Forest Green had several chances to equalise but Grimsby scored a third late on with a goal bundled in from a corner and credited to Rodman, but if it crossed the goal line it only just did. All in all a combination of mistakes and fortune led to a much needed three points. To be fair though Grimsby had lost the last two games when they probably deserved a draw in both of them.

Town find themselves in the top five again in a very congested section of the table, and Forest Green Rovers manager Dave Hockaday will be cursing his luck if he loses his job following this defeat because the big spenders have slumped to 16th.
