Hitmen Hearn and Hannah Strike Again

GRIMSBY once again ended up the winning team after a combination of solid defence and taking what chances fell to them ensured they scored more goals than the opposition. The win over Barnet was Town's fourth consecutive league win and consolidates their place in the play-offs.
Barnet started the game well but Grimsby withstood a tough opening 20 minutes before gradually coming into the game. After a goalless first half 10 minutes into the second half McLaughlin hit the side netting from a great position from a John-Lewis cross. Town continued to press and Ross Hannah put Grimsby 1-0 up when he beat the offset trap and hit it first time past the 'keeper just after the hour mark.
With 10 minutes to go Paul Hurst brought on Cook and Hearn for Hannah and John-Lewis and within a couple of minutes to two combined and Hearn placed it into the corner of the net.
From nowhere Barnet were suddenly back into it with 5 minutes to go when the centre back Stephens struck a sensational volley from 20 yards into the roof of the net. Barnet had a bit of late pressure but Town hung on to pick up another valuable point. The only minus point was sub Liam Hearn limping off with an injury in added time.
The match was again marred by an incident after the game when the Barnet team coach had a window smashed while leaving the town and making its way back to London. This comes on the back of an attack by locals on Scunthorpe supporters making their way home following the FA Cup game a fortnight ago. These incidents, probably not involving supporters who have actually attended the matches, only do the club harm as they deter visiting fans from coming to Blundell Park and deny the club a valuable source of income.
Town's next outing is to Coalville Town, near Leicester, for an FA Trophy clash, where the Mariners will hope to start another cup run in a tournament in which they got to the Wembley final last season.
