Alfreton Points Deduction
By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 15/03/2014
ALFRETON have been deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player earlier in the season, which could dramatically change he final play-off positions. Cambridge and Alfreton looked the most likely teams to be involved in the play-offs prior to the deduction.
It could mean Alfreton drop one or more places in the final table, possibly out of the play offs altogether. If Grimsby are involved in the play-offs it is likely to affect who Town play in the semi-finals, or possibly whether Town are involved at all in the post-season games.
It would be a cruel blow to the midlanders, who are having their best ever season. However goalkeeper Jon Worsnop, who joined the club on an emergency loan from FC United of Manchester, was not registered in time to play at Kidderminster on 14 December.
Cambridge will move up into second place above Alfreton in the current league table once the three points are deducted.
