SCOTT Neilson has signed a new one year deal with the Mariners, another player who many fans suspected would depart for pastures new. Most of the better players who Town wanted to keep have now resigned, meaning Grimsby are likely to be strong contenders for promotion next season.

In the last few days Craig Disley and 'keeper James McKeown had both committed themselves to the club and the manager, and now Neilson has followed suit. Only Alex Rodman has so far chosen not to resign at Blundell Park. Town are still awaiting the decision of young midfielder Andi Thanoj on the new deal he has been offered.

With three promising former youth team players on the books and much of last season's squad still in place, hopefully the prospect of a successful season ahead will help convince Paul Hurst's transfer targets to jump on board.
