Grimsby v Oxford Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 07/11/2014

GRIMSBY will be hoping to emulate their "giant killing" acts of last year which saw League Two sides Scunthorpe and Northampton put to the sword by the Mariners in the FA Cup. This year Town face another struggling L2 side Oxford, also at Blundell Park.

The Mariners are in fine form after their impressive run of five straight league wins, and the bookies have made Grimsby favourites to win the tie at Blundell Park.

Town though will have to do without on-loan midfielder Harry Pell as AFC Wimbledon have not given him permission to play in the FA Cup. Paddy McLaughlin could possibly come into the midfield as Hurst shuffles his pack to accomdate the change, or the Town boss could play two up front and leave four in midfield rather than stick with the 4-5-1 formation that was been successful recently.

Defender Carl Magnay (knee) and midfielder Craig Disley (knock) are both doubtful after being forced off in the win at Braintree on Tuesday.

Scunthorpe defender Danny Parslow has returned to Blundell Park on an emergency loan deal until the start of January and may be able to deputise at left back if Magnay does not make it.

For Oxford Charlton loanee Tareiq Holmes-Dennis is available, but on-loan goalkeeper George has not been given permission to play by Sheffield United. United have lost their last two games and are struggling in the bottom half of the table.

Oxford have not beaten Grimsby in four attempts this century when the two clubs were both in League Two.
