A Seismic Win

GRIMSBY consolidated their Conference play-off spot and gave their automatic promotion hopes a boost with a terrific win at Eastleigh last night, only the second time the Hampshire club have been beaten at home this season. Loan signing Ollie Palmer once again proved the match winner with the game's only goal.
Town dominated most of the match, especially the first half, and only a combination of good goalkeeping and glaring misses prevented the Mariners from recording a more emphatic victory. Only in the closing stages did Eastleigh mount any sort of challenge, but the Town defence were resolute and restricted the big spenders to only a handful of chances, mostly near the end.
Both of Town's new signings started the game, in a new look left hand side. Gregor Robertson started at left back, and Christian Jolley began the game on the left wing.
Town took the lead when striker Ollie Palmer's persistence forced the Eastleigh right back into a mistake and instead of the defender clearing the ball into touch as he should have done, Palmer ended up dispossessing the player and curled the ball into the goal round the 'keeper.
John-Lewis was probably guilty of missing the best chances Town had but Eastleigh looked anything but promotion hopefuls and in the end Grimsby cantered to a fairly comfortable win.
The Mariners next take on Telford before their next long trip to the south coast when they take on Dover in a week's time.
