Scott Neilson Leaves Grimsby

Date: 09/02/2015

SCOTT Neilson and Grimsby have agreed by "mutual consent" to terminate the winger's contract. Neilson has struggled for form and injury this season but on his day was one of the most talented players in the division.

The 27-year-old has not played for Town since limping out of the defeat to Lincoln City on December 28. Neilson initially joined Town in the 2012-2013 season on loan from Crawley when he rapidly became a crowd favourite. Luton outraged the Town faithful when they poached the Southerner in the January transfer window under Town's noses. However Neilson only lasted six months at Luton and played just 8 games before joining Town again in the summer of 2013.

Neilson had a good season last year, playing 40 games, but the season ended in a personal disaster for the winger when he was unlucky to be sent off against Gateshead for a non-existent challenge. Town re-signed Neilson this summer, but too late to appeal against a three match ban. Neilson started this season not looking 100% fit and failed to regain his fitness or form for most, if not all, of this season. Town boss Paul Hurst had appeared to have lost his patience with Neilson and left him out of his playing squad altogether for the last few games.

It remains to be seen in Neilson is fit enough to sign for someone else. The Fishy wishes Scott the best in the remainder of his career.
