Barnet v Grimsby Team News

GRIMSBY face leaders Barnet on Saturday in the third of a trio of head-to-heads against the big guns of non-league football. Town slipped up against Forest Green and Bristol Rovers, two close games which Grimsby deserved something from in both. The Mariners hope to make it third time lucky against Barnet.

Barnet had a seemingly impregnable lead a few weeks ago, but several defeats for the Bees (including one at Blundell Park) and the form of the chasing clubs has narrowed the gap to just four points. Grimsby are 12 points behind Barnet, and Town will have to win most of their remaining 13 games if they to overtake the North London club, including of course tomorrow's match. It's more likely that Grimsby will be involved in the play-offs again and Town need the points to keep pace with the top five teams.

Jon-Paul Pittman (hamstring) and Scott Brown (knee) have both started training again, although Paul Hurst says neither player is ready to start the match. Ollie Palmer (hamstring) pulled out of the team shortly before the game with Bristol Rovers at the weekend and is still not ready. Christian Jolley played up front in the absence of Palmer, but Jolley looks more suited to a wide role and it is his position that Paul Hurst is most likely to make changes.

Barnet head are just two players short of a fully available squad. Top scorer John Akinde (suspended) and Jon Nurse (injury) are both ruled out, but Michael Gash will come in as a straight swap for Akinde. The former Kidderminster striker will be making his full debut for Barnet if he starts after making three substitute appearances.

Town have a good record against Barnet, having won 10 out of 14 games, with just three defeats.
