Grimsby v Gateshead Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/04/2015

EASTER 2015 heralds a massive weekend in Grimsby's history with two enormous games, the first of which is at home to Gateshead on Saturday. If Town could manage to win this game and Easter Monday's match at Alfreton they could be leaders going into the final three games of the season.

First things first though, and that is the match with Gateshead, who halted Town's promotion charge last season. Town have no new injury concerns, it's just a matter of who Paul Hurst chooses in each position.

One player who has become available is new signing Josh Gowling. The ex-Kidderminster centre back was suspended for the game with Welling, but is now available, although in reality it seems unlikely that Hurst is going to split up his back four to accommodate a debutante.

Scott Brown was preferred to Craig Clay in midfield for the trip to Welling, and Hurst could choose either man in the centre of the park.

Lenell-John Lewis and Ollie Palmer are almost bound to continue in attack, leaving the rest of the squad hoping for a place on the bench at best.

Gateshead have several injuries at the moment. John Oster, JJ O’Donnell and Phil Turnbull all have knee problems while Andrai Jones, Matt Robson and Ben Clark are also doubts.

Town have a mixed record against Gateshead with the two sides meeting a lot recently. Gateshead knocked Grimsby out of the play-offs last season and the FA Trophy this year (after a replay). However Grimsby drubbed the Heed 6-1 on Tyneside in the early season, but they haven't won at Blundell Park in the last three attempts all of which have ended in draws. Having not played since 1955 when the teams met again in 2010, Grimsby and Gateshead have since played 13 times in 4 seasons. Gateshead still have slim chance of claiming a play-off spot so have something to play for but they'll have to win every game to stand a chance.
