Title Hopes Over

GRIMSBY'S tremendous unbeaten run ended with barely a whimper as Town lost to Wrexham at home on Saturday in one of the poorest displays of the season. Town had to win and hope that Bristol Rovers and Barnet dropped points. As both rivals picked up three points Grimsby will now have to settle for the play-offs.

Although there is a mathematical chance that Grimsby could still finish top, it would take an extraordinary set of results to do so.

Joe Clarke's 16th-minute strike proved to be the only goal of the game and Grimsby were unable to break through Wrexham's stubborn defence following the early opener.

Town barely mustered a shot on target all game and the closest they came to scoring was when substitute Jon-Paul Pittman's late header flashed went just wide of the post.

The Mariners now have to lick their wounds and ensure they finish third to secure the advantage of playing the second play-off leg at home.

In more bad news full back Gregor Robertson has been ruled out until at least the play-offs after his injury forced the defender off at half-time against the Dragons.
