Town Draw Blank at Braintree

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 11/10/2015

GRIMSBY and Braintree fought out a fairly uninspiring 0-0 draw in Essex on Saturday afternoon. The result extends Grimsby's unbeaten run but the Mariners had the better chances to win the games, and struck the woodwork late in the match.

Omar Bogle was the only change to face the Essex outfit. replacing the injured Jon-Paul Pittman in Town's attack. Gowling and Robertson both went off in the first half almost at the same time with injuries. The players both limped off and Toto and Tait came on for the pair which restricted the chances.

Town's best chances fell in the middle of the second half. Tomlinson broke free and elected to pass to Bogle when he probably should have shot and his pass was not perfect, meaning Bogle has to take extra touches and Braintree got back and eventually cleared. A few moments later the roles were reversed and Bogle elected to shoot when Tomlinson was well placed.

Paul Hurst brought on Marshall for Arnold in a straight swap on the right wing, so Amond was an unused substitute because of the two first half injuries. Late Town pressure result in a goal mouth scramble which saw Disley's header loop up and hit the bar

Braintree, with their extra man in midfield, were well organised and restricted to a few half chances. McKeown was forced into a good save in the first half in the pick of their efforts,

Paul Hurst now has to make wholesale chances to his defence for the visit of Halifax on Tuesday night.
