Amond's Three Card Trick

PADRAIG Amond produced a stunning hat-trick at Woking at night, which lifted Grimsby back into third place and leaves Town just one point away from effectively sealing a place in the play-offs. Woking fought back with a second half revival which saw them half Town's 2-0 interval lead, but Amond's third goal late in the match sealed the three point.
Amond was restored to the starting line-up after being controversially dropped at Dover. Grimsby were by far the better team in the first half and created numerous chances. Monkhouse set Amond up for Town's opener, which the Town striker took in his stride and curled into the corner of the net.
Amond and Bogle both missed chances in the first half, although Woking came close to scoring when a free kick struck the post in a rare chance for the Cards.
Amond added his second on the hour mark, cooly slotting the ball past the 'keeper from a Disley assist, but a good spell by Woking saw the home spell gain a lifeline when the impressive Andrade ended a fine move with a tap-in at the far post. The goal sparked a revival and Woking threatened Town's goal for a long period.
However Amond had the final say with a fine goal, drilling the ball low past the 'keeper for his hat trick.
It was a well-deserved win against a side Grimsby usually do well against and hopefully it will see the Mariners end the regular season on a high with positive results in their final two games, starting with the last scheduled match at Blundell Park against Chester.
