Bogle to the Double!

By: Rob Sedgwick

OMAR Bogle was the hero again for Town at Carlisle. The leading scorer did not find the net against Accrington or Blackpool but scored two and set up Yussuf for a third, the new signing's debut goal 15 minutes after coming off the bench.

It wasn't plain sailing for Town against the fancied Cumbrians. The Mariners went into the break 1-0 down thanks to a Wyke goal but Town came out fired up in the second half and an early goal soon set them on course for another away victory at one of the "fortresses" of League Two. Grimsby have shown they can beat the best in this division, they just need to do it a bit more regularly at home.

Bignot made four changes and changed the system to accommodate a back 3. Andrew Boyce, Craig Disley, Ben Davies and Scott Vernon all came into the starting line-up, with Summerfield and Chambers dropped and Vose and Bolarinwa starting from the bench.

Grimsby started well but Carlisle then took the lead against the run of play on the half hour mark. A ball came into Wyke which split the Town defence and Henderson couldn't keep it out despite getting a strong touch of the ball. Boyce should have levelled the game just before half time but headed wide from close range.

Grimsby came back into the game early in the second half with a solo effort by Bogle. The big Town striker made the goal himself on the edge of the box shrugging off his defender and slotting the ball nonchalantly through the keeper. It was a fine piece of individual skill which will have added a few thousand to his value! Bogle then added a second from a corner, rising unmarked to nod in Andrew's kick.

Town were in dreamland four minutes later when Bogle turned provided with a superb Tony Rees-esque back-heel to set Yussuf clear. The substitute kept his composure and slotted it home to the delerium of the visiting supporters.

Town rode their look when Jabo Ibehre missed a sitter from close range when the ball bobbled off his knee and ex-Mariner Jamie Devitt was desperately unlucky to hit the inside of post and see the ball roll along the line to Henderson.

It was a well earned win and a triump for Marcus Bignot who bravely changed his team and formation to give Town a new look.
