Town Demolish Glovers

GRIMSBY entered the "playing for pride" stage of the season with a 4-2 defeat of Yeovil at Blundell Park to maintain Russell Slade's 100% home record. Two goals from the strikers and two from midfield produced an entertaining afternoon for the 4000+ crowd.

Craig Disley, James Berrett and Vernon all started for the Mariners with Calum Dyson, Gavin Gunning and Ben Davies all dropping out.

Grimsby took an early lead when Osborne was brought down by the 'keeper and Sam Jones made no mistake from the spot. Clements gave Town breathing space with when the ball bounced to him about 40 yards out and he took two touches before drilling it past the 'keeper.

After the break Lawless pulled a goal back for Yeovil with a shot from outside the box that beat McKeown on his near post. Town restored the two goal advantage before long when an unchallenged Vernon headed in from a corner.

The pick of Town's goals came from a Yeovil free which hit the Town wall and Osborne raced to reach the rebound first. The midfielder took the ball the full length of the pitch, cut inside and struck it in at the Pontoon end to the crowd's delight.

Yeovil scored their second from a corner with lax marking by Town, but the Mariners managed to negotiate the final 15 minutes without a scare.

Town head to Barnet now with the pressure well and truly off, hoping to end the season on a high with their final away outing before the season finale against promoted Plymouth.
