Town Win Again!

GRIMSBY followed up their 2-1 win at Accrington to record another win by the same scoreline by beating Yeovil at Blundell Park. Danny Collins and Scott Vernon scored the goals which lifted Town into 13th place in the table and within touching distance of the promotion places.
Town were the better side for most of the match, but Yeovil had chances in both halves and managed to cancel our Town's lead to level the game going into half time.
Russell Slade made minimal changes for the game with once enforced alteration to his lineup in the form of Luke for the injured Mitch Rose.
After a good start Town took the lead from an early corner. Berrett's corner eluded the 'keeper and fell to Collins at the far post who drilled it in from a narrow angle, although the defender on the post should have also dealt with it. It came from poor defending rather than great play by Town but their pressure had at least yielded dividends.
Town pressed the self-destruct button themselves midway through the first half when Summerfield misplaced a pass and Yeovil broke through Surridge who set up Zoko who placed the ball around McKeown to level the game. It was Yeovil's only threat of note at this stage.
Clarke should have scored himself from a corner but headed well wide when in prime position in front of goal and in what was virtually a free header.
After the break, Yeovil's Surridge fired straight at McKeown, but Town continued to have most of the possession.
Vernon replaced Matt on just after the hour mark and it proved to be a great switch by Slade for the second game running. This time the goal came from another set piece which Vernon had won. The ball was flicked on to Vernon at the far post which buried it from close range.
Yeovil looked dangerous in the closing 20 minutes and Town survived a few scares but managed to navigate to the final whistle with their lead intact. It was a nervy display at times, but a well-deserved win with two set piece goals.
