Town Blow Their Chance

GRIMSBY did all the hard work against Crawley on Saturday, grinding out what should have been a narrow victory. However striker Sam Jones, having won a second half penalty, struck the ball wide of the mark. The match ended 0-0, another very dull game, with Grimsby the better side but unable to get over the line.
Russell Slade picked the same staring eleven after the fine win at Port Vale last week.
Neither side had many chances in a dire first half. An interchange between Sam Jones and Scott Vernon resulted in the best chance but Glen Morris saved Jones's effort.
After the break Jones forced another save from Morris and then was brought down by Mark Connolly, from which Town received a penalty. Jones sent the ball wide from the spot, and that was the end of the good chances.
Town were defensively sound but once again created so little that it's always going to be hard work to win!
On the plus side Grimsby keep picking up points to keep them well away from danger, but any assault on the upper echelons of the league seems some way off.
