Grimsby v Exeter Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 23/02/2018

PAUL Wilkinson gets a second bite at the cherry to make an impression as Town's hunt for a new manager has yet to reach fruition. Wilkinson's first game in charge, a 3-1 defeat at Cambridge, saw little change from what had gone before under former boss Russell Slade.

The Mariners have now gone 13 games without a win, and while not in immediate danger of relegation, a few more points on the board would certainly be welcome sooner rather than later to prevent Grimsby getting drawn into the thick of the battle at the bottom of the table.

Wilkinson will have to manage without on-loan strikers Simeon Jackson and Mallik Wilks against Exeter as the pair are both injured. However Mitch Rose, Siriki Dembele and Danny Collins should all be available to start, the trio were all first team regulars before their injuries and suspensions.

Exeter are not expected to make any changes from the side which won 2-1 at Crewe in midweek. Defender Pierce Sweeney and striker Liam McAlinden are both rules out with groin injuries. Defender Jordan Storey is back in training after a face injury but may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Exeter are having a good season and currently sit in the last play-off spot. The teams met twice in 2017 and Town lost 5-0 on aggregate. However Exeter have only won one of the last four games.
