Grimsby v Lincoln Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/08/2018

STRIKER Wes Thomas has signed for Grimsby on a one-year deal following his summer release from Oxford. The 31-year-old missed the last year with an Achilles injury, but is now recovered and looking to return to football.

Thomas had played for Oxford, Birmingham and Bournemouth plus numerous other smaller sides, mainly on loan. The Londoner offers Michael Jolley extra attacking options and goes straight into the squad.

Wing-back Reece Hall-Johnson has returned to training after missing the Rochdale game, midfielder Mitch Rose is still suspended. Injured trio Cardwell, Famewo and Fox are all back in training but none are expected to feature, although it's possible they might make the bench.

Lincoln have started the season with a bang (three straight wins), and are favourites for automatic promotion, after strengthening their squad over the summer on top of an already successful side. The Imps rested seven players for the cup game with Port Vale, which they won 4-0, so boss Danny Cowley has a number of choices to make before he settles on a final XI.

Town have a good record against Lincoln over the last decade or so, but the pendulum has definitely swung in Lincoln's favour since the Cowley's arrvival. City took 4 points off Town last year, but Michael Jolley has yet to experience a Lincolnshire derby at Blundell Park.
