Bradford Sink Town

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 23/12/2020

TOOTHLESS Town once again succumbed to a home defeat caused by their inability to make the most of their possession. The Mariners went 2-0 down at half time to two stunning individual goals, which gave Bradford a fairly easy task of defending a lead in the second half against Town's impotent attack.

The Mariners did make a game of it though thanks to Harry Clifton pulling a goal back after the break, but Town never looked like adding a second and Bradford saw the game out.

Ian Holloway only made one change from the side that beat Scunthorpe. Luke Waterfall returned after a one-match ban, replacing Mattie Pollock in central defence.

Bradford didn't look especially threatening but they scored two stunning goals before the break. Firstly Novak opened the scoring when he chested the ball down and then finished with an overhead kick, and then Sutton rounded off a Bradford break with a perfectly executed lob over McKeown.

The goals apart neither side really threatened their respective goals before the break.

Town pulled one back in the second half when Bennett's cross was played back to Clifton who converted from close range.

Grimsby brought on their subs but could not mount a sustained challenge and fell away at the end.

The result leaves Town just above the relegation zone but their game in hand has now gone.
