Away Woes Continue

Date: 24/11/2021

GRIMSBY succumbed to another away defeat last night at Solihull Moors, their third consecutive defeat on the road (four including the cup game at Kidderminster). The Mariners once again failed to create many chances despite high possession and fell foul of defensive mistakes.

New loan signing Sam Bell started up front alongside Ryan Taylor, with Giles Coke dropping out the side, as the squad's only change.

Solihull scored from an early chance, with the unmarked Adam Rooney allowed to pick his spot from a Clarke cross to give the hosts the lead. Bell and Sousa then combined to set up Clifton but his shot was saved by Boot, and Pearson came close from a corner when his header was cleared off the line.

John McAtee came on after an hour to try and help creativity, but the biggest threat came from defender Michee Efete who was played through by Taylor and denied with a good save.

With Town looking close to an equaliser, Pearson had a header blocked on the line and then Solihull broke and substitute Sbarra wrong-footed McKeown to put daylight between the two sides.

Efete has a couple of more half-chances in the time remaining but Solihull could have had a third with Town pushing forward.

The Mariners have a chance on Saturday to pick up some points at home when second-placed Boreham Wood at the visitors.
