Festive Programme Under Threat

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 20/12/2021 (Last updated: 22/12/2021)

GRIMSBY'S game with Boreham Wood has been postponed on Tuesday and the Boxing Day game at Halifax looks similarly threatened, with clubs up and down the country struggling to put on games.

Defender Ryley Towler was one player who did manage to play on Saturday at Stockport, and the loanee has been recalled by his parent club Bristol City with immediate effect. That reduces Grimsby's pool of players by a further one.

It's possible the Mariners could not play a game until 2022, with the whole festive programme wiped out by the almost two-year-old pandemic.

With so many players isolating and unavailable it could also make the January transfer window, which Grimsby have pinned their hopes on, more challenging than normal.

UPDATE: The fixtures with Halifax (away) and King's Lynn (home) have now been postponed.
