Town Fail to Break Down Harrogate

Date: 22/02/2023

GRIMSBY had to settle for a disappointing point in the 0-0 draw at home to Harrogate last night. The Mariners have the third-worst home form in the league and are averaging less than a goal a game at Blundell Park.

Town dominated the game against a Harrogate side intent on defending. Maher came close in the first half from a corner, although Harrogate also went could have scored when Olagibe's shot was deflected wide.

Clifton and McAtee combined just before the break, but the Town striker's shot went narrowly wide.

Town were largely frustrated in the second half, despite long spells of possession, but they could have won it in the closing stages when Ryan Taylor came on and produced a great save from an Emmanuel cross in injury time.

A point takes Grimsby close to the safety margin but the lack of a cutting edge remains a worry, especially against teams who come to defend. The Mariners will have a different sort of challenge on Saturday when the host leaders Leyton Orient at Blundell Park.
