Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby finish next season?

Time to Act!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 31/10/2000

There seems to be a consensus of opinion that approval for the new stadium for the Mariners at Great Coates is a foregone conclusion and that the NELC will now allow it. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Although some councillors have changed their minds or indicated they are prepared to reconsider their position, the situation is exactly as it was before. The majority of those allowed to vote may well vote no again!

One of the concerns that a councillor has raised is that very few people in his constituency have contacted him to express their wishes to him as to which way he should vote. He also added that, based on the representations made to him, the Great Coates contingent have outnumbered supporters of the project almost 5 to 1. This indicates to him that Town supporters do not care one way or the other.

If the 20 councillors eligible to vote are getting the same feedback it indicates a lack of support for the project by the fans.

This is one area for which the councillors cannot be blamed. If we, the fans, are not prepared to make our views known to councillors, they may quite rightly declare that there was little support for the project and a great deal of resistance to it.

It is important therefore that each of us communicates with councillors expressing our support for the project and asking for their support by voting in favour.

There is little time left. The key word today is URGENT.

The Fishy is taking up the challenge and we are asking all fans to help by communicating with their local councillor and others and letting them know we support the club in their proposal for a new stadium at Great Coates.

The future of the Mariners is at stake here and we need to act now!!

To find the list of councillors go to The NELC web site

This will give you a list of names. Click on a name and it will give you the address and telephone number of the councillor.
