Lennie Lawrence Releases Two Players!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 19/07/2001

GRIMSBY TOWN have announced the release of two players today. Manager Lennie Lawrence appears to be reducing the wage bill by releasing players he does not feel will play a part in the Mariner's future. Presently trialing a number of players, Lawrence sees these players as surplus to requirements.

Mariners Net reports that midfielder Adam Buckley has had his contract at Blundell Park cancelled by mutual consent, and he is expected to be on his way to Lincoln City, joining up with his father, Alan Buckley now manager of Lincoln City.

Although he had just under two years remaining on his contract, it was decided that after having discussions with manager Lawrence it suited both parties for him to be released immediately.

The other Grimsby player who could be on the move is Ben Chapman. He has been told he does not feature in Lennie Lawrence's plans and he has agreed to allow him to play in two trial matches for Scarborough during the next week. The boss there, Neil Thompson is said to be taking a look at Chapman with a view to signing him on a permanent basis if he impresses.

With a year to go on his contract Lennie Lawrence has agreed to let him go if he gets an offer.
