Kippe Seeking Bigger Fish than Grimsby

By: Jostein Jensen
Date: 15/08/2001

LIVERPOOL defender Frode Kippe speaking in the Norwegian media has said that he doesn't see Grimsby as an attractive enough club to justify moving across the country for. The 23 year old central defender has settled for playing reserve football with Liverpool until his contract ends next summer.

Lennie Lawrence's defensive target, whose wife had a baby this week, is believed would eventually cost Grimsby about £300.000 in a permanent move. Kippe claims he isn't interested in a short loan spell, saying that he was not prepared to depart from his exclusive apartment in Albert Dock for a new home in Grimsby, even on the same money that he is currently earning at Anfield.

Speaking in the Norwegian paper Romerikes Blad, Kippe said: "Nothing new has happened. I have purposely waited until the birth, but now I hope that something permanent will come along. So far there have not been any concrete offers that I have been tempted by".

Although Kippe uses the former Lillestrøm player Erik Solérm as his agent, who has himself been linked with Grimsby as the possible identity of former Vice Chairman's Bryan Huxford's "backer", Kippe would rather stay in England than move back to Norway.

"Playing in Norway is not an alternative before next year. I will consider all alternatives, but I don't want to let the economic deal I have with Liverpool just now slip away. Grimsby wanted to pay me the same wage that I had at Liverpool, but it didn't tempt me to move to the east coast to play 1st division football," stated the Norwegian.

"Grimsby is too far away from Liverpool where I have my apartment and my social network. I would have to move and that I don't want to do. I would rather stay in Liverpool and play Reserve team football," said Kippe.
