Jonny Rowan Wants To Be In Lineup For Saturday

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/09/2001

"The physio asked me how I was and I told him to tell the gaffer that I want to play," said Jonny Rowan today referring to the incident during the Sheffield United game when he was knocked unconscious.

In an interview with the Grimsby Telegraph Rowan said: "I don't want to miss this one. I've played in them all so far and I just want to play. I can't be bothered with being sat on my backside. The physio will need clearance off the doctor for me to play and I'm not sure what the rule is."

"The first thing I remember was Jevvo saying something to me and then I remember seeing Wilko (Paul Wilkinson) in the ambulance. I can't remember anything else before that. I just attacked the corner and went up with Asaba. He led with his elbow to get up better but it wasn't intentional, I can see that on the video. I thought it was at first from what people were telling me but now I've seen the video it wasn't."

"I'm feeling pretty lucky. It's scary in a way. I've got a really sore head and a lump above my ear. There's nothing up with me apart from a stinking headache."

Manager Lennie Lawrence said after the game that he would not rush Rowan back and today said there remained a doubt.

Mick Boulding (left) is set to sign a deal today to keep him at Grimsby Town until next summer. He impressed in the Reserves' 5-0 win over Blackpool last week and was expected to play for Town Reserves in their game at Stockport tonight.
